1994 Reflections

Reflections BottleThe Season
The 1994 growing season ranks among the finest in the past decade. A warm late-winter period started the season early and there was minimal threat from frost during bud break and bloom. Temperate summer days and cool nights ripened the fruit evenly; the grapes matured with the proper balance of acidity and sugars.

The Harvest

Merlot - 800 pounds, picked September 17, 1994
Cabernet Sauvignon - 1600 pounds, picked October 21, 1994

Fermentation

Merlot - 8 days of skin contact
Cabernet Sauvignon - 3 days of cold soak prior to fermentation for maximum color and phenolic extraction, followed by 8 days of further skin contact.
Juices fermented with Montrachet yeast.

Cellaring
225 litres total for first production.
Varietal lots kept separate until January, 1995 at the time of the first of three total rackings. Wine blended into three 60 gallon new and neutral French oak barrels. Two years barrel aging and one year bottle aging.

Packaging
The total presentation enhances the elegance of the wine. Smoky-hued Antique Green bottles with applied acrylic labeling are individually hand polished and tissue wrapped. Branded wooden boxes hold 12 bottles.

The Wine
1996 Reflections Meritage is a blend of three classic Bordeaux varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc - with strong flavors of cherry touched by chocolate, berries, a variety of herbs and slight spice from the considerable barrel aging are all evident. With slightly more body than the earlier two blends, and a long, supple finish, this Reflections blend is elegant, subtly powerful, and will age beautifully.
